09-25-2006 Re-edit. Prior edit broke links to images not already loaded into your browser's cache, so trying this again....

09-23-2006 Edit. I updated links and images in the following post to present higher quality images and correct broken links. Feedback and comments always welcome.

So from my front yard, you can see stuff like this (click images to be taken to a clearer view of them):

And recently, even this:

From my back yard, you may see sights like this:

Have you read the author Don Harington? He calls himself an Arkansawyer too. He hates it when people say Arkansan.

Well... I always heard my Momma say that people really from here have always been Arkansawyers... and it was city folks and/or outsiders that started using the fancy word "Arkansan". Of course, Mom grew up in Colorado. But her parents were from Arkansas, and she returned there before I was born. My Dad was born and raised there...

I can say, having been in the military, a LOT of people use AR-KANSAS as a slanderous (in a funny way) way to refer to where I am from. They know it gets me... :) That I'll set them straight - I am from AR-KAN-SAW, thank you so very much.

At any rate, no matter where I now lay my head, my roots are there, and will always be there.

FYI...

For some reason your photos were not appearing when I come to your blog. Your blog has "blank" boxes with a little red "x" in the upper left corner as if the link is broken. Been that way since you revised the post. But if you click on the blank box it will take me to your photo account where the photo appears. Then when I return to your blog the particular photo will then appear on your blog. In one case I had to go back and forth three times before it appeared. Don't have a clue what the problem is or if it is with me but thought I would let you know. All your other posts with photos are still fine.

Okay... think I know why... I posted direct links to the "large" images on the dA site... and they don't allow that, most likely. But if you visit the site and it puts the image into your cache, then it works. I had it in mine so therefore it worked when I was testing this... but now - trying from a different browser I get the same thing you got.. Thanks for the heads up. I'll fix it in a little while.

I did type a long answer here... then my wireless card did some crazy things and i had to reboot.

Okay... first... Annie... I really enjoy your page... I'll have to add it to my regular visits...

Alan, thanks for the feedback! I knew before that I couldn't do what I tried to do but when I tried it this time it worked - because I had the images already cached in my browser.

Betty, thanks a lot for your nice comments. I found my way to your site through a link on Alan's page.

I'd like to put all of you my regular visit list... :) I have neglected my blogspot site recently as I've devoted more time to photography. Also it seemed for a long time like the only ones who visited were Alan and my family. I'll try to do better.

Pennsylvania is a pretty scenic place - just like my home in Arkansas. For the record since it doesn't really say elsewhere I am from Montgomery County, where my family homesteaded somewhere around 1850.

For now I am in Pennsylvania and I have some good reasons for staying here - in addition to the wonderful photo-ops. But I am coming to the conclusion that one day I have to return to my roots, paycheck or no paycheck. I've always planned to but it's never happened yet, and in recent years I almost decided I was tired of moving and I'd just stay here for a long, long time.

But... We'll see. My kids do need to know their grandparents better than they do today.
